Meet our team - Georg Tabagari

Georg recently joined pitt&sherry Building Surveying as a Cadet Building Surveyor in our Launceston Office and has been part of the team for a couple of months. With a keen interest in the built environment, he is enthusiastic about developing his skills and gaining hands-on experience in the field. Here’s what Georg had to share when we asked him a few questions

What about your job gets you out of bed in the morning?

Knowing that every day is opportunity to grow and learn, helping me build up the skills to become a confident building surveyor. It’s exciting to be out on-site, meeting other industry professionals, seeing how buildings come together, and being part of projects that impact the community. Even the small wins, like understanding a new concept or getting hands-on experience, keep me motivated and eager to work!

What has been your favourite project to work on at pitt&sherry so far?

So far, my favourite project has been the luxury estate at the Barnbougle Farm Golf Course. Being built right on the waterfront dunes, the setting was stunning, the views of the water paired with the beautiful architecture; and seeing both a completed house ready for occupancy and the framing of another made for a great learning experience, giving me insight into both a framing inspection and an occupancy inspection. An honourable mention would have to go to the Country Club Driving Range; places of entertainment as such are scarce in our state, so I doubt similar projects will come up often, and I’m excited to test it out once it's up and running!

What do you do outside of work that fuels your passion for building surveying?

Having grown up in houses that were constantly being renovated and fixed up, I think I naturally developed a strong interest in how buildings come together, what makes them functional, well-designed, and efficient, I think is what steered me towards the construction and building design industry to begin with. Over time, that curiosity extended to the legal and regulatory aspects in terms of council permits, considering the largely DIY approach to renovations my family has. I find satisfaction in being able to competently contribute to our own home renovation projects and offer informed and practical advice to friends and family undertaking their own. This ability to apply my knowledge in real-world situations is what motivates me.

What’s your guilty pleasure snack in the office?

A no sugar energy drink. Nothing better as a relatively guilt-free treat, except disapproval and concern from my colleagues!

Where would we normally find you on the weekend?

Really depends on the season - summers are spent exploring the coastlines, swimming, freediving and spearfishing - being out in the water as much as possible really. Winter weekends are for soccer, although weather permitting, a good coast trip doesn’t go amiss.
