University of Tasmania Stone Building

Redevelopment of a heritage-listed industrial building to be used as offices for University of Tasmania staff at the new Inveresk campus.

Year completed:
2023
Location:
Tasmania
Client:
University of Tasmania
Architect:
X-Squared Architects
Project value:
$12m

Originally constructed in the 1920s as a train repair workshop, the building presented fire engineering and energy efficiency challenges. A “whole of life carbon” assessment was undertaken to demonstrate the carbon savings in revitalising the existing building compared to a new building, resulting in 30% carbon savings.
